Excursion Leibniz-Institut für Pflanzengenetik und Kulturpflanzenforschung (IPK) in Gatersleben

In its Federal Central Ex-situ Gene Bank, the IPK combines the conservation, research and use of the genetic diversity of crop plants with innovative research approaches. The institute investigates the adaptability of crop plants to changing environmental conditions. By specifically improving the properties of plants, the Leibniz Institute contributes to the development of a plant-based bioeconomy and promotes the associated social change. Participants of the excursion can take part in a guided tour in English or German and visit the IPK's gene bank, which contains an impressive collection of over 150,000 samples from almost 3,000 species.

After the excursion, lunch will be offered in the institute's canteen at own expense. The outward and return journey to Gatersleben is to be organized by the participants themselves. For the outward journey there is a possibility of a ride through Werkleitz. Departure on June 7, 2024 on time at 10 a.m. at the ZOB Halle. Please register with details of your journey at info@werkleitz.de by 29.05.2024. Places are limited!
Alternatively, the RE4 in the direction of Goslar leaves Halle (Saale) main station at 9:49 a.m. for Gatersleben, the walk from there to the IPK takes about 15 minutes.

For the return journey it is possible to take the train from Gatersleben back to Halle. The departure after the excursion is 14:14 from Gatersleben station with the RE24 to Halle (Saale) main station. The train runs every hour between Gatersleben and Halle (please note timetables).
